Transforming Communities Initiative

What

The TCI is a community-based research initiative that brings together faculty, students, and community leaders. The TCI was created by Dr. Jessica Lucero and Dr. Jennifer Roark in an attempt to reinvigorate the way in which research is taught at Utah State and the way research is performed in Northern Utah. Specifically, Dr. Lucero and Dr. Roark noticed a lack of enthusiasm from many Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) students enrolled in research courses, while simultaneously noticing that many community based agencies did not have the resources to conduct needed research projects. Collaborating with Dr. Peak, Drs. Lucero and Roark created the TCI with the sole purpose of providing research services to Northern Utah by engaging BSW (and eventually MSW) students in community-based research.

Who

We are a group of skilled researchers, students, and community leaders who are striving to make an impact in our communities by partnering with human service agencies to address the pressing research needs within our local and statewide social service system.

How

Through leadership, applied teaching, and community-based research, we hope to build stronger, healthier, happier communities in the state of Utah.
